There are many opportunities in the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to explore the issues you are passionate about while building the qualities and skills required to advance your career. 

We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees taught by internationally recognised academics and award-winning industry practitioners. 

As well as being available on our beautiful Perth campus, many of our units can be completed online through an external Murdoch enrolment and through Open Universities Australia (OUA).  Some of our programs are also on offer through Murdoch’s Singapore campus.

Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Global Security

A Bachelor of Global Security looks at the great security challenges of our present and future world, including political violence and conflict, climate and environmental change, and the online vulnerability of our social, economic and political lives.  

Major study areas in the Bachelor of Global Security include:

  • Cyberspace, Policy and Security
    Combine security, criminology and technical skills to counter one of the principal risks of the modern age.
  • Environment, Conflict and Security
    Identify solutions to human security as it is affected by environment, climate change, policy and conflict.
  • Politics and International Studies
    Analyse how power, interests and ideas shape important political decisions in Australia and around the world.
  • Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies
    Gain specialised knowledge of strategies and policies used to counter terrorism in the modern age.
      

Masters

  • Master of Community Development
    Combine industry learning and research-led teaching in a qualification that equips you to work with local and overseas communities.
  • Master of Development Studies 
    Identify solutions to social, economic and political development; food, health and economic security; conflict management; and social and environmental sustainability.
  • Master of Public Policy and Management 
    Gain the strategic, analytical and professional skills necessary for a career in government, non-profit, and private sectors.

Research

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
    Work with expert supervision in the Humanities and Social Sciences to resolve a critical problem in one or more of our disciplines.  Make an original contribution to knowledge in a traditional or creative-led research thesis of up to 100,000 words.
  • Masters degree by Research
    Undertake an 18-month research project with expert scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences.  Study any of our leading disciplines or undertake interdisciplinary research to gain specialised knowledge and skills.
