At Murdoch we have a range of venues, facilities and equipment available for hire by staff, students and the wider community.
Venues and spaces
Whether you’re looking to host a workshop, conference or community event, we offer a range of venues for events big and small at our Perth and Mandurah campuses. Spaces available for hire include:
- Lecture theatres
- Courtyards, gardens and grounds
- Seminar and tutorial rooms

To make a booking request you can:
- email the Room booking team to find out the availability of venues. Provide the date, time and estimated attendance for the booking. You can request a specific venue if applicable
- if you agree to Murdoch University’s General Conditions of Hire of a Venue submit:
- a booking request for your function or event
- a copy of your currency certificate of public liability insurance
- a booking request for your function or event
- your application will be considered and if it can go ahead we will send you a confirmation.
External companies will be invoiced for the venue hire in the month following the booking.
If you need to cancel your booking a minimum of 1 week’s noticed is required.
Sporting venues
Our Perth campus has a variety of sporting venues available to hire through our Sports Precinct and Murdoch Active.
Murdoch Active
Murdoch Active offers a wide range of sporting facilities and equipment which are available to students, staff or the community through memberships or bookings.
This includes indoor and outdoor courts, a small grass field and equipment.
Sports Precinct
Our Sports Precinct offers a range of playing fields as well as a Sports Pavilion with a bar area and change rooms. The playing fields are suitable for cricket, AFL, soccer and many other sports.
The Sports Precinct includes:
- Two synthetic pitches
- Two cricket ovals
- Cricket nets
- One AFL pitch
- One soccer pitch (grass)
- Sports Pavilion
- Synthetic pitch and pavilion with change rooms, umpire rooms, toilets and kiosk
Change rooms can be made available with any field booking. Pavilions must be booked.

Equipment and event services
We can help to arrange equipment for your event including trestle tables, chairs and signage to direct people to your venue once they arrive at Murdoch.
If you’re hosting a large event, our team can also help coordinate services such as plumbers, electricians and security.
Please note, hire fees apply and your hire application needs to be lodged at least 10 days before your event.
You may need to hire audio visual equipment
When you’re organising an event, it’s important to check that your venue has the equipment you need, or that you have your own equipment that can be used.
Our lecture theatre facilities include data projectors and screens, sound facilities, microphones and whiteboards. Portable devices such as wireless microphones, lecture capture devices, data projectors and screens are available for hire.

A few things to remember
If you'll be on campus between 8am and 4.15pm, you and your event attendees will need pay for visitors parking at $3.00 per hour. Parking tickets are available from the designated ticket machines in car parks 2, 3, 4, 5, & 7.
Parking on campus is free after 4.15pm on weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday in red, green and visitors ticket parking areas, except reserved and easy access bays. Please note parking on verges is prohibited.
To keep our campus secure and reduce risk to our staff and students, our Security Officers will open rooms only at the time for which they have been booked. For after hours and weekend bookings, our Security staff might ask to see your booking confirmation.
If you need to contact Security Services while on campus, please call 9360 6262 or use the security call points located around campus.
If you're planning to serve alcohol at your event, whether for sale or consumption, you are required to complete a Murdoch University Liquor Permit and return it signed with your event application form. You may also be required to provide a copy of your occasional liquor licence.
Please note, Murdoch University is a smoke-free environment and smoking is not permitted in any buildings on campus or within our designated fresh air zones.
In line with the University's procedures regarding bringing animals onto campus where applicable a temporary permit may be required.
- Animals On Campus Permit applications need to be submitted to the FM Helpdesk with a minimum of 5 business days' notice.
- The Manager of Campus Services [or delegate] will review and assess application.
- FM Helpdesk will notify requestor of outcome and provide a copy of the approved permit via return email.
- A hard copy of the approved permit is to be kept on the requestor for the duration of permit and displayed upon request.
If you’re organising a community event such as a funfair or festival, or any event involving food vans or loud music in one of our campus courtyards, you may need an approved City of Melville application as part of our venue hire process.
If your event is not directly affiliated with the university, you need approval to use the Murdoch University name and branding before your event is organised. Please contact our Marketing and Events team, with details of your event and a background of the organisation or group of people running the event.
