How to prepare your teen for university

Preparing for university can be a big step for many high school students and their parents and families alike. As a parent or guardian, you play a key role in providing guidance and advice to your teen and with so much information out there it can be hard to know where to start. We’ve created many resources and tools to help you and your teen on this journey.

Helping your teen decide what to study

There are a range of factors to consider when deciding what to study, including your teen’s ATAR or selection rank, what area of study they are interested and passionate in and how they plan to study. Explore our undergraduate courses and read our guide to helping your child pick their university course.

Programs for primary and high school students

We have programs for primary and high school students to help them improve in areas, prepare for tertiary study and get a taste of university life.

After school programs

If your child is aged 10 or over, they can take part in our mathematics, chemistry and physics after school programs. Held on three days each week, these two-hour interactive sessions are designed to engage students who have an interest in science or maths, preparing them for their future career and introducing them to the idea of university. Each session is run by a Murdoch staff member who will offer one-on-one guidance and support.

Program Day
Physics Monday (4:30–6:30pm)
Chemistry Thursday (4:30–6:30pm)
Mathematics Friday (4:30–6:30pm)
